The Journey Begins

I chose to live my life after I learned of his affair.  The horrifying news jolted me out of my zombie-like state and into action.  It happened on a Friday night before a huge snowstorm in February and he was on a weekend trip with the boys.  After getting the kids to bed, I scrolled through Facebook. Apparently, he had lost his journal. Somehow I knew that if I found the journal, I would find myself.

I walked to the closet in the bedroom we shared, opened a black shoe box and there it was.  I didn’t hesitate before reading every word.  Midway through the journal I read, “I ended my relationship with ‘ALS’…” I knew her.  She had been to our home.  We’d even gone to happy hour together.  I called him after reading the final page to let him know that I wouldn’t be home when he returned.  And so began the worst year and a half of my life…

My process has been three years in the making. The first year was excruciating. I’m planning to reveal a new layer of my journey each week. My hope is that sharing my experience will help others who are struggling to make sense of their new reality. Thank you for commenting and sharing! #SMDH

Thanks for sharing. I can totally relate to the pain and dismay that comes from an affair. I’ve been divorced two years, but separated about 3 years before it. I’m about to release my first book in August. Called “Slayed; Yet I Trust Him”. It is a memoir of the last years of the marriage. Our stories deserve to be heard. Thank you for your bravery.
